Child dies after bounce house goes airborne outside Maryland baseball field

According to the sheriff's office, the bounce house was picked up by a gust and went between 15 and 20 feet in the air.

WALDORF, Md. — A five-year-old boy died when the bounce house he was in went airborne, according to the Charles County Sheriff's Office in Maryland.

It happened Friday night at a Southern Maryland Blue Crabs baseball game. According to the sheriff's office, calls started to come in at 9:21 p.m. about the bounce house being picked up by a wind gust with kids still in it. 

The sheriff's office said in a release the bounce house went 15 to 20 feet in the air and children fell out of it before it landed on the baseball field.

Paramedics who were there because of the game started to give medical attention to injured children. Two of the kids were taken by air to a Children’s Hospital, where the 5-year-old was pronounced dead. The other child who was airlifted was said to have injuries that were not life-threatening.
