SAN ANTONIO — This morning Operation Homefront and partners donated hundreds of meals and toys to military families through their 14th annual Holiday Meals for Military event.

This year, the organization along with SAS will hand out 16-hundred meals to military families across Texas.

This event is not just about helping those who served our country, but about serving the whole family by giving them turkeys, to gingerbread houses and toys to the kids.

It’s a simple thank you that can go a long way through a turkey or two, some toys and fun. It's a reflection of the sacrifices made for the ones who serve our country.

A community teaming up through Operation Homefront to bring military families together during the holidays.

Like Tim Donovan, his wife and three boys who decided to give rather than receive this season.

“Giving back and giving your time is one of those things that doesn’t cost anything," Donovan said.

Donovan is no stranger to the giving of time to others, serving his country for six years in the Marine Corps.

“I can tell you from when I was down range or when I was watching my father deploy it’s always something going on…being able to recognize their efforts…a simple thank you goes a long way.”

375 “thank you’s” in the form of Thanksgiving meals were passed out today.

“I don’t know that communities see the struggles of the moving the packing the changing the everything new," Robin Carter, senior director with Operation Homefront said.

All the more reason Carter said families need these packages.

“Our military families deserve our appreciation, they work very hard doing things, some seen, some unseen to keep us safe so we can be in this wonderful country."

A reason to continue to give a simple thank you whenever you have the time.

“So it’s very important to give a little thanks and just give a little holiday cheer to anyone…including our service members," Donovan said.

The giving doesn’t stop here. If you would like to give back or volunteer you can go to operation-homefront-dot-org.
