Ollolai is offering Americans $1 homes to move there.

UNITED STATES, — If you're unhappy with the election results and are looking to move, there's rural Italian village looking to entice Americans by offering homes for just $1.

The ancient town of Ollolai recently launched an initiative called "Live in Ollolai," which is offering affordable homes for those who "are worn out by global politics."

Turns out, the election results stirred up many emotions among Americans. In fact, just days after the election, search results soared regarding how to move abroad, according to Realtor.com.

"Of course, we can’t specifically mention the name of one U.S. president who just got elected, but we all know that he’s the one from whom many Americans want to get away from now and leave the country,” Mayor Francesco Columbo told CNN. "We have specifically created this website now to meet U.S .post-elections relocation needs."

According to Realtor.com, there are three categories from which you can choose from:

  • Free temporary accommodations for remote workers
  • Homes in desperate need of renovation will be sold for $1
  • Homes that are ready to be lived in, will start at $100,000

Columbo shared that he has a team of experts designated to help interested buyers. The team will provide specified private tours of available homes, help fill out paperwork and finding contractors.

If all of this sounds familiar that's because this isn't the first time Ollolai has offered American's $1 homes.  Back in 2018, Columbo, tried this tactic to up their decreasing population -- now 1,162 in 2024 -- but was only able to sell 10 homes.

Moving abroad because of election results isn’t rare, but it does happen. For Jana Lynn Sanchez, after finding out the election results she knew what she needed to do. So, picking Europe was an easy option and one where she has no regrets about. Our sister station, WFAA covered the story, to read it in full, click here.
