SAN ANTONIO — An elderly woman was found beaten to death in her Balcones Heights home and police have arrested a family member who was reportedly the last person to see her alive.
Police have arrested the victim's son Michael Wayne Curbow, 55, in connection with the Tuesday night murder.
According to an arrest affidavit, Curbow gave his friend a key to his mother's apartment and asked him to check on her as he believed she was dead.
After making contact with Curbow's friend on Tuesday night, officers went to Curbow's mother's apartment unit at the Spanish Keys Apartments on Babcock Road for a welfare check.
Upon entering the apartment, officers found the victim dead, lying on her back on the kitchen floor with severe trauma to her head.
Per the affidavit, earlier that same day, the Curbow's mother, 76, called police to report that her son was at her apartment causing a disturbance, yelling profanities and refusing to leave. However, by the time officers arrived, Curbow had already left.
Police say no weapon was used in the beating.
Curbow has been arrested and charged with murder.
