SAN ANTONIO — Donald Trump is heading back to the White House after clinching enough battleground states to send him to 270 electoral votes against Vice President Kamala Harris.
That bounty includes Texas' 40 electoral votes – the second-biggest prize in the nation, behind California's 56 – which Trump won handily. Not since 1976 has the Lone Star State voted for the Democrat in a presidential election; that streak includes Trump victories in Texas in 2016, 2020 and now 2024.
Harris' county wins were largely limited to the state's major urban regions, including Bexar, Harris and Dallas counties. But even in Bexar County, President-elect Trump made gains for his biggest share of the vote out of the past three presidential elections.
