BEXAR COUNTY, Texas — A few weeks after Monica Ramirez Alcántara resigned from her position as Bexar County Democratic Party chair, her replacement has now been elected, according to a press release.
Ramirez Alcántara resigned on Nov. 7. Following her resignation, a special meeting of the Bexar County Democratic Party's County Executive Committee (CEC) was called for Nov. 21 to elect her replacement.
Three candidates filed for the position: Michelle LoweSolis, Terri Flores Lopez and Larry Romo.
The special meeting was over Zoom and took just over three hours. There were 203 Democratic precinct chairs who were eligible to vote at the meeting, which was livestreamed to the public on Facebook Live.
There were two rounds of voting. During the first round, since no candidate received a majority of the votes, the candidate with the least amount of votes was eliminated. That person happened to be Larry Romo, who went on to endorse Michelle LoweSolis.
In the second round of voting, LoweSolis received 80 votes while Terri Flores Lopez received 79 votes, according to the press release.
Receiving a whopping one vote more than Lopez, LoweSolis was declared winner of the Bexar County Democratic Party chair.
LoweSolis will serve for the remainder of this term. The next election will happen during the Democratic Primary in March 2026.
