Texas House, District 118

Republican incumbent John Lujan managed to hold off Democratic challenger Kristian Carranza for the Texas House seat representing District 118, in a tight race separated by just a few points. Lujan has won a third term in office, having now won three straight elections by slim margins.

District 118 includes various parts of San Antonio and Bexar County, including cities like Elmendorf, Live Oak, Macdona, Randolph AFB, Sandy Oaks, Selma, Somerset, Universal City and others. More than 196,000 Texans call the district home.

Lujan, 62, has been a member of the Texas House of Representatives representing District 118 since November 2021, when he emerged victorious in a tight special election campaign against Democrat Frank Ramirez. The pair were separated by just 285 votes out of more than 11,000 case, according to Ballotpedia. Lujan won reelection in 2022, winning with 51.8% over the vote over Ramirez.

Lujan also briefly held the seat in 2016 and 2018.

Lujan announced his decision to run for re-election and advanced from the Republican primary in March after running unopposed. During his term, Lujan has cosponsored two bills. Those include Senate Bill 3 during one of last year's special sessions, provided funding to build and maintain walls along the southern border.

Carranza, who hadn't run for a Legislature seat before, advanced from the Democratic primary after defeating Carlos Quezada 63.1% to 36.9%.

Texas House, District 116

Trey Martinez Fischer is projected to easily defeat Republican challenger Darryl W. Crain and continue representing District 116 in the Texas House of Representatives. Fischer is far ahead, with a 33-point lead and 80% of Texas precincts reporting.

Martinez Fischer has been a member of the Texas House since January 2019. He advanced from the Democratic primary in March after running unopposed.

During his tenure, Martinez Fischer has sponsored a couple of bills like House Bill 177, which would have provided one-time bonuses to public school employees. It failed to gain any momentum.

Crain also advanced from the Republican primary after running unopposed. He is running for state Legislature for the first time.

Texas House, District 117

Incumbent Philip Cortez is projected to win the Texas House District 117 race against Republican Ben Mostyn. Cortez is ahead with a double-digit-point lead.

The district covers approximately 10% of Bexar County, including parts of San Antonio. It's comprised of about 205,000 residents.

Cortez has been in office for seven years, most recently beating out Aaraon Schwope in 2022 by 11,201 votes out of more than 44,000 ballots cast in the race.

Both Cortez and Mostyn advanced from their respective primaries after running unopposed.

According to Mostyn’s campaign, three of his key messages relate to bringing America together as a nation, making the country more energy independent and securing the border.

Texas House, District 119

Elizabeth “Liz” Campos’s reelection campaign is also projected to win against Republican Brandon J. Grable in a race for the House seat representing District 119. Campos is leading by nearly 30 points.

District 119 consists of pieces of Bexar County including China Grove, Converse, Live Oak, Schertz, Universal City and parts of San Antonio. About 206,000 Texans live in the district.

Campos previously worked as a chief of staff in the Texas Senate before winning the state House seat in November 2020, beating George Garza, Arthur Thomas IV and Antonio Padron. She advanced from the Democratic primary in March after defeating Charles Fuentes by 4,900 votes, according to Ballotpedia.

If elected, Grable, a former U.S. military member, plans to focus on securing the border, passing school choice and cutting excess waste on the state budget, according to his campaign. He advanced from the Republican primary after beating out Dan Sawatzki.

Texas House, District 121

In one of the closer races of the night, Marc LaHood officially secured victory in District 121, winning the seat early Wednesday morning with all precincts reporting. He held off Democrat Laurel Jordan Swift, 52.6% to 47.4%.

The outcome brings a new face to the District 121 seat after LaHood beat State Rep. Steve Allison in the Republican primary. Governor Greg Abbott had endorsed LaHood, turning his back on Allison after he went against the governor's school vouchers initiative year.

The district oversees Bexar County encompassing cities like Alamo Heights, Olmos Park, Terrel Hills, Timberwood Park, Hollywood Park and parts of San Antonio. More than 186,000 people live in the district.

Texas House, District 122

District 124 includes sections of west San Antonio, Lackland AFB and portions of Bexar County.  Nearly 200,000 Texans call the district home.

Both Garcia and Soto advanced from the primaries after running unopposed in their respective parties.

Garcia won the House seat back in 2022 after defeating Johnny Arredondo with 67% of the votes, according to Ballotpedia. During her term, she sponsored several bills including House Bill 2, which sought to create a grant program to incentivize school safety initiatives, among other efforts. It passed the House but never reached the Senate floor.

Texas Senate, District 25

Donna Campbell also won reelection to keep her District 25 seat in the Texas Senate, defeating Democrat Merrie Fox by more than 25 points.

Texas Senate District 25 covers multiple counties, including Blanco, Comal, Guadalupe, Hays, Kendall and Travis, along with a small portion of Bexar County. About 908,000 people live in the district.
