SAN ANTONIO — Steven Wright finished eight votes ahead of Michael Rodriguez in the Republican primary runoff for U.S. House District 35 on Tuesday night. The two were separated by fewer than 400 votes in the March Primary Election, with neither able to secure 50% to win outright.
With all ballots accounted for and 100% of precincts reporting, Wright was leading Rodriguez, 1,077-1,069.
The winner goes on to face Democratic incumbent Greg Casar in November. He ran unopposed in the March Democratic Primary.
U.S. House District 35 encompasses much of central San Antonio, along with a slice of Central Texas snaking up Interstate 35 to east Austin. It's home to about 802,000 Texans, according to Census Reporter, and encompasses 521 square miles.
