Mayor Ron Nirenberg gears up for the DNC, backs Kamala Harris for President

SAN ANTONIO — With President Biden stepping down, and Vice President Kamala Harris becoming the official democratic nominee, San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg has loudly and publicly announced his support for Kamala Harris as president.

"I've just had the opportunity to work as partners with Vice President Harris and President Biden over the last three and a half years as a mayor," Nirenberg said. "And I will tell you, it is in stark contrast with the kind of experience that communities like ours have had under a President Trump."

The mayor has stood by President Biden when he announced protections for DREAMERS, and he's been there for conversations about the border, backing the Biden administrations' policies. He says he's grateful for policies that have directly benefitted San Antonio.

“My emotions when President Biden announced that he wouldn't be seeking a second term were mostly of gratitude for the kind of work that has gone in to the communities and our country over the last three and a half years,” Nirenberg said. "We are creating jobs here in San Antonio, rebuilding our infrastructure, keeping people housed because of the partnership of the Biden-Harris administration and local communities like San Antonio. So, you know, the fact that we are here today looking at an economy that is creating jobs and creating pathways to economic mobility like we haven't seen before is a credit to that partnership."

While state leaders like Governor Greg Abbott and Attorney General Ken Paxton have expressed support for Former President and Republican nominee Donald Trump, Nirenberg is backing the Vice President and is confident in her nomination.

"I'm looking forward to continuing the momentum and continuing to see our country come together under this campaign with Vice President Harris," he said. “What I see from the Biden-Harris administration versus what I see from state leaders, Republican leaders here in Texas, is action, not words.”

In two weeks, Nirenberg will be travelling to Chicago for the Democratic National Convention, hoping the party clinches a victory this November.

"Americans are resilient. President Biden is on the job," Nirenberg said. "He's going to finish the job. And then we're going to elect his vice president to continue the job. So, no, I'm not concerned at all. This is how democracy works and and I'm here for it."
