HOUSTON — On Thursday, Sen. Ted Cruz sat down for a one-on-one interview with KHOU 11's Rekha Muddaraj.
They discussed a wide range of topics from the war in Israel to immigration and more.
Cruz is a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. When asked if the recent attack by Iran on Israel will spark a wider conflict, Cruz said he expects some things to come from the attack.
"I expect Israel to strike back. Israel is going to defend itself. And, in any sovereign nation, if a country fired 300 missiles and drones at the United States, we would defend ourselves and I expect Israel to do the same," Cruz said.
Cruz was also very clear about his stance on border security, lambasting what he said is the Biden Administration's failure to enforce current immigration laws. He also explained why he voted against a recent bipartisan immigration bill.
"It was a terrible bill. It was a bill that was written by Chuck Schumer. And it was designed to keep illegal immigration happening," Cruz said.
He also weighed in on two Senate hearings Wednesday scrutinizing Boeing's recent safety issue and what the aircraft manufacturer needs to do moving forward.
"Commercial aviation remains the safest way to fly. If you look at last year, we actually have something to celebrate last year, there were no fatalities on commercial aviation. That is not true in many other years," Cruz said. "Boeing is an incredibly important American company. We need Boeing to be strong. And that means they need to rediscover and reimplement a serious safety culture."
He also talked about his race for reelection. Cruz and his opponent, Democrat Collin Allred, are in a race for the Senate seat.
"I think we have a very serious fight in the state of Texas. If you look at the Democrats, Chuck Schumer and George Soros have named me their No. 1 target in the country and they intend to spend over $100 million trying to win Texas," Cruz said. "My approach to campaigns ... I think campaigns should be based on issues and substance and a candidate's record and a candidate's vision for the future. And my record and Colin Allred's records are very, very different. His record is hard left. In his first four years in Congress, he voted 100% with Nancy Pelosi. Literally did not deviate a single time."
A poll conducted by the Texas Hispanic Policy Foundation, Rice University and the Baker Institute showed that Cruz was ahead of Allred 46% to 41%.
