S.A. health officials warn against 'Kush,' or synthetic marijuana

SAN ANTONIO - A drug that is said to turn people into "zombies" is now being called a public threat by San Antonio health officials.

SAN ANTONIO - A drug that is said to turn people into “zombies” is now being called a public threat by San Antonio health officials.

The San Antonio Fire Department and the Texas Poison Center told KENS 5 that more and more people are going to the hospital because of fake pot, known as "Kush."

A zombie-like trance is a side-effect of using the very powerful and inexpensive Kush. It's classified as synthetic marijuana, but it's not marijuana at all.

It's also known as Klimax, K-2 or potpourri. It's illegal, but people are still able to get it on the streets.

Now, the South Texas Poison Center and SAFD are sounding the alarm.

In the last two weeks, there has reportedly been an increase in ambulance runs, taking people to hospitals who are on it. At least one downtown hospital has seen an increase of patients who have overdosed and are nearly comatose.

The Texas Poison Control center said the side effects could be life-threatening. They include psychosis, combative behavior, stroke and seizures.
