SEGUIN -- The small town of Seguin is seeing a major drop in crime.
The City of Seguin can sleep more soundly after the announcement of the city's latest crime rate.
"Last year was a great year for us. We're almost 13 percent reduction in crime, which is just a phenomenal thing for a small city," Seguin Police Department Deputy Chief Bruce Ure said.
Residents are happy to hear the news.
"That's good. That's really good," resident Abel Moreno said.
"The more we can cut down on that the better," resident Tom Engler said.
According to the 2015 Uniform Crime Rate analysis, Seguin saw a 68 percent drop in robberies last year as well as a 43 percent drop in aggravated assaults.
"The great thing about these decreases in crime is that It's not by accident," Deputy Chief Ure said. "We launched some very specific initiatives, we got our community involved, we really increased our social media to try to involve our community and let them know what's happening out there, because we figure that 30,000 sets of eyes, additional sets of eyes, really helps us out."
The one area the city did see an increase was burglaries.
"Small petty burglaries. And we've got a tremendous initiative going right now. Last year we were hit a little bit harder than what we wanted to be, so far this year our numbers have really dropped," Deputy Chief Ure said.
It's a drop the police department hopes will continue.
