CONVERSE -- A man hired to keep trouble out of the Uptown 78 Lounge is, himself, in trouble.

Deputies arrested a bouncer after they say he beat up a customer, "severely" injuring the customer's head. The victim was taken to the San Antonio Military Medical Center in critical condition.

The incident happened around 2:30 am Saturday. Investigators say the bouncer tried to stop a man from leaving with a drink in his hand. The two began to fight and deputies said the bouncer used excessive force.

KENS 5 learned that he's no longer employed at the bar.

The bouncer could be charged with aggravated assault, though the sheriff's office said potential charges could be escalated if the victim dies.

A manager at the bar declined when asked for comment.
