SAN ANTONIO — It's been two years since the shooting at Robb Elementary in Uvalde. Every year, on May 24, superintendents and staff across Bexar County get together to donate blood at South Texas Blood and Tissue.
"It just, it warms my heart that we're all unified together," said Dr. Jose Moreno, superintendent for Somerset ISD. "You know, that's, that's really what it's about is all public schools, all public systems come together to do the right thing for the right cause."
No one at South Texas Blood and Tissue can forget the day. Blood provided by South Texas Blood and Tissue was transfused into the victims that needed it, exactly two years ago.
Dr. Jeanette Ball is the superintendent of Southwest ISD, but from 2013-2018, she was known as Uvalde ISD's superintendent.
"I got to walk the halls of Robb Elementary, I knew both of those teachers," she said. "I knew many of the students and their families. Never did I believe that that would happen. Not in that loving, beautiful community. I think what this has done is just open the eyes for myself and for many others, that this type of tragedy, can happen truly anywhere."
She explains donating blood is her way of honoring the 19 students and two teachers who were killed that day.
"I just want people to remember them, and to make sure they do on this day and every day something special and important to honor those sweet children that lost their lives," Dr. Ball said. "This is the least that I can do to try to help them."
