Cameron Nguyen is a San Antonio native who graduated from Clark High School. He's had a stellar academic career from the very beginning. In high school, he qualified for the Top Scholar and Honors College program.
“They focus on knowledge, leadership and service. Not just great grades, but also being involved in the community,” Nguyen said.
He’s a shining example of a leader who's dedicated to service. He's done a lot of volunteer work during his school breaks, which included traveling to Fiji, where he helped build a recycling and greenhouse system for the local people.
UTSA said Cameron has also worked on several research projects with professors in computer science and business. His volunteer work received special recognition earlier this month. He won the Golden Feather Award, UTSA’s highest honor.
"It recognizes students who have crafted a powerful legacy over the course of their academic careers," a UTSA spokesperson said.
Nguyen has interned at H-E-B and USAA. But he turned down job offers from USAA and Amazon because he landed a job with Google. He said it all started when he checked out an online session by Google.
“At the very end, they send you more links about different tips for my resume. At the very bottom, after you say thank you and sign off, they leave a little picture that says computer data science structure. If you look at it in a different way, it’s actually a website,” recalled Nguyen.
Nguyen said the website ended up being a secret recruiting challenge. He answered six questions and Google asked for his information. Starting in July, he’ll begin his job as an engineering resident.
"Talk about a dream job," he told UTSA. “As I’m talking with you about it, I still can’t believe it!”
