Volunteers ask community for ideas on new areas to search in disappearance of Caleb Harris

The timeframe for the $25,000 reward offered on Harris' whereabouts is nearing the end.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The last day for the reward for anyone with information on the whereabouts of Caleb Harris is drawing near. His family originally put a time limit that will end on Sunday March 31.

Nearly a month has passed and still there is no word on where the missing Texas A&M University- Corpus Christi student is at.

On Wednesday afternoon 3NEWS caught up with just a handful of volunteers from the community who were doing their part to help in the search.

So far, it's been 23 days of searching and 23 days of not losing faith that Caleb Harris will be found.

The area the group focused on was along Shoreline as well as Oso Bay at the bridge before you get to the Island University.

The volunteers said they've been doing a lot of individual searching on their own the last couple of weeks and are going through some pretty difficult spots along the water, through mud and thick brush.

While there has been an extensive focus on land, many bodies of water have also been searched.

Volunteers are asking the community for ideas on new areas that can be searched.

3NEWS spoke with one volunteer named Brenda Carrizales who would like to see even more people help.

"As a mother it's heartbreaking, it's almost been a month, no word, no phone calls, no leads, so we got to help out," Carrizales said. "The family is not from here, they're from New Braunfels, so they wouldn't know where to begin, they're relying on us. As residents of this county we need to step up, everybody who wants to help come out and help."

During Wednesday's search, the group came across a fairly large homeless camp in the brush, but there was no one around. It's one of many they've encountered across the city.

There is a reward being offered, it's $25,000, but there is a time limit.

Any information has to come in by Sunday.
