Use this tool to find out when the April 8 eclipse will arrive to you, and if you'll experience totality

Want to know precisely when the eclipse window begins and ends where you are?

SAN ANTONIO — So much information has been shared about the forthcoming Great American Eclipse – from the date and the science to where to get glasses and how to be prepared if you're traveling – but when it comes down to it, two of the most important things to know are how much of the sun will be covered where you are and when you'll need to be outside.

Luckily there's a tool that makes it easy to find out. And this being the last solar eclipse to bring totality to the contiguous U.S. until 2044, now is the time to know when you should be looking at the sky.

Xavier M. Jubier has created this Interactive Eclipse Map allowing users to input your address to find out if you're in the path of totality, how much of the sun will be obscured for you if you aren't and when exactly you should be outside for maximum eclipse time.

For instance, we here at KENS 5 will witness totality between 1:33:39 p.m. and 1:35:05 p.m. The window for the entire partial eclipse, meanwhile, starts at 12:14:34 p.m. and ends at 2:55:46 p.m. Meanwhile, those heading to Louise Hays Park in Kerrville for the city's official eclipse festival will experience totality for nearly twice as long, from 1:32:07 p.m. to 1:36:32 p.m.

Here's how long the window of totality will last for other communities in the path, according to the interactive map:

  • Uvalde: From 1:29:41 p.m. to 1:33:56 p.m., with maximum eclipse occurring at 1:31:48 p.m.
  • Boerne: From 1:32:48 p.m. to 1:36:22 p.m., with maximum eclipse occurring at 1:34:35 p.m.
  • Fredericksburg: From 1:32:58 p.m. to 1:37:22 p.m., with maximum eclipse occurring at 1:35:10 p.m.
  • Leakey: From 1:30:33 p.m. to 1:34:57 p.m., with maximum eclipse occurring at 1:32:45 p.m.
  • Del Rio: From 1:28:33 p.m. to 1:31:56 p.m., with maximum eclipse occurring at 1:30:14 p.m.

If you're heading out to some of the San Antonio eclipse watch parties, here's what you can expect:

  • Natural Bridge Caverns: Totality from 1:34:25 p.m. to 1:35:42 p.m., with maximum eclipse occurring at 1:35:03 p.m.
  • Hemisfair: 99.937% obscuration, with partial eclipse starting at 12:14:31 p.m. and maximum eclipse occurring at 1:34:21 p.m.
  • SeaWorld: Totality from 1:33:02 p.m. to 1:35:05 p.m., with maximum eclipse occurring at 1:34:03 p.m.
  • Witte Museum: 99.960% obscuration, with partial eclipse starting at 12:14:37 p.m. and maximum eclipse occurring at 1:34:27 p.m.
  • Tobin Center: 99.949% obscuration, with partial eclipse starting at 12:14:32 p.m. and maximum eclipse occurring at 1:34:22 p.m.
