LAMPASAS COUNTY, Texas — With most of the hotels in Central Texas booked for the total solar eclipse on April 8, some of those who hope to watch the rare event are having to find alternate arrangements.
This is why some local business owners are taking a different approach to solve the problem, inviting people to camp outside!
Lometa is one of the Central Texas cities hosting an outdoor event for the eclipse, the Sun Festival, which will be held at Lometa Regional Park from April 5 to April 9.
The Sun Festival is not just another eclipse watch party however, it will be a four-day event complete with live music, camping, food trucks and vendors "of all kinds".
The event will be put on by music venue Bend General Store and hosted by Bret Cali. Cali says he wants to invite people to attend the event so they can have a safe place to camp.
"I want them to enjoy themselves out here...and have every single thing they need out here...it's incredibly beautiful," Cali said.
Just 20 minutes away in Burnet, Texas is Burning Goat Ranch, where another total eclipse party will be held all weekend.
"We are providing RV spots...all spots come with eclipse glasses and we're doing a movie night," Toni Rackley, the owner of the ranch, said.
On top of movie night, the ranch will also offer smores, make goat lotion and so much more.
Rackley added that the best part about it all is that, being out in the country, everyone will be able to see the stars clearly at night and even the Milky Way.
