Meet an eclipse chaser ready to witness history in San Antonio

Thousands are expected to come to South Texas for the annular eclipse. Some of them have chased the cosmic event across entire oceans.

SAN ANTONIO — With the moon’s shadow moving over Texas this Saturday, many are traveling to San Antonio to witness history.

That includes Dr. Kate Russo, an author, psychologist... and eclipse chaser.

Russo has been to numerous countries around the world chasing the paths of totality and annularity—places like France, Mongolia and Madagascar, to name a few. She's originally from Australia , where several eclipses will take place over the next decade.

The thrill and feeling of being in the path of the moon’s shadow, especially for a total solar eclipse, is like no other. The hairs on the back of your neck stand up.

Russo, who has witnessed 13 total solar eclipses and two annular eclipses over 24 years, knows that experience well.

"It happens above you, it happens around you, and it happens inside you," she said.

She also hosts workshops, presentations and seminars educating the communities where solar eclipses happen. She encourages everyone to witness a total solar eclipse at least once in their lives, even it that means traveling to witness the magical cosmic moment.
