TYLER, Texas — All 50 of these United States play high school football, but none of them have a tougher road to the state championship than Texas.
Here in the great state, all schools playing 11 man football go through a six round gauntlet of a playoff. No other state has a tournament this large.
Even high school football hot bands like California and Florida don't have brackets deeper than five games. This is because they divide their states into regions and teams play for championships within those sections. Here in Texas, it's a playoff blood bath that rivals the Alamo, where the top four teams from every district in the state play each other, even if their records ain't great.
This is because every once and a while a team like Joaquin comes around. The Joaquin Rams barely snuck into the fourth playoff spot in their district with a 6-4 record. Since then, they've been one of the hottest teams under the Texas stars, and they've played their way all the way to the state semifinals.
The other reason is because everything is bigger in Texas.
