UTSA Roadrunners tailgate for football season opener

UTSA is reaching a milestone for 10,000 season tickets which would be their most since 2015

SAN ANTONIO — We're now in football season with UTSA playing its first game against Kennesaw State.

The school chant is loud and proud amongst UTSA fans and alums excited for a new season.

"Jeff Traylor has been doing a phenomenal job with the football team. I don't expect us to lose a game," said Louis Longoria.

Longoria graduated from UTSA in 2016 and has been tailgating with his friends since the beginning of UTSA football.

They created the birdhouse tailgate with the goal to create a community.

"It helps to build the brand for UTSA, and as an alumni, I think that's important to me because I feel the responsibility that I need to give back to the school because we're a young program," said Longoria.

The same goes for the Rowdy Sideliners.

Albert Martinez is from the UTSA class of '96 and created this group with his friends.

He's been tailgating here for years watching the growth.

'We see a lot of younger kids now out here with their UTSA shirts or before you never saw that, you would see them with on the university shirts. Now everybody comes out here, they're throwing the football around and it's just fun," said Martinez.

UTSA's next home game will be September 21st against Houston Christian.
