Important wins separate contenders from pretenders | Friday Night Football Replay

Our weekly high school football podcast is keeping track of every district race with the end of the season quickly approaching.

SAN ANTONIO — On this edition of 'Friday Night Football Replay,' KENS5.com producer Cameron Songer and sportswriter David Flores break down all the high school football action from the eighth week of games of 2019 in the San Antonio area. While Judson and Brandeis continue to take care of business by remaining undefeated, we’re starting to see Madison, Johnson and Roosevelt pull away from the rest of the field in district 27-6A. Meanwhile, Steele and East Central picked up important wins in a crowded 26-6A race.

We talk about a handful of big games from the prior week, including Jay-Stevens, Taft-Warren, Brackenridge-Lanier and Bandera-Wimberly. The Holmes Huskies continue to look for answers, while the Southside Cardinals picked up an important district win.

We have coverage of every game from San Antonio and the surrounding area every week, so we’ve been tracking the rise of some teams over the course of the season. Medina Valley and Alamo Heights, for example, started slowly but are beginning to pick up steam.

With just three weeks left in the regular season, Week 9 could be pivotal for some playoff contenders. We preview Churchill-South San, Johnson-Roosevelt, Steele-Smithson Valley and Stevens-Brennan, to name a few.
