KENS 5 Top 5: Brennan and Pieper hold onto the top two spots

Check out Vinnie Vinzetta's picks for the best San Antonio-area programs after five weeks.

SAN ANTONIO — Five weeks of the South Texas high school football season are in the books! Here’s my KENS 5 Top 5. And it's razor thin.

The Brennan Bears and the Pieper Warriors held on to their spots in the top two while Alamo Heights dropped down to number four, switching places with the Steele Knights from last week's ranking.

No. 5: Southwest Dragons (4-0)

The Dragons were on their bye week and nobody gets punished for that. They put their undefeated record on the line this week against rival Southside.

No. 4: Alamo Heights Mules (5-0)

The offense looks tough! Nearly unstoppable at times. Another one in the win column after Friday night's game at Orem Stadium, where they held off Boerne 35-28. They visit Harlandale this week.

No. 3: Steele Knights (4-1)

The Knights bounced back from their first loss of the season to Austin Westlake by putting 55 on 'Highway 3009' rival Clemens. The Knights get upstart (4-1) taking on East Central on Friday.

No. 2: Pieper Warriors (5-0)

I was there for their epic showdown against district rival Smithson Valley. 39-36 was the final score as the Warriors (5-0) now enjoy their bye week.

No. 1: Brennan Bears (3-1)

And the top spot to the Brennan Bears! They had last week off, and again no punishment for that. They take on the O’Connor Panthers this week as the Bears look for (4-1) and four straight wins.

Those are my KENS 5 Top 5. What are yours?  Let us know on X at @VVinzetta.
