SAN ANTONIO — Ten weeks of high school football action has gone by faster than the Reagan Rattlers racking up touchdowns. Here are Vinnie Vinzetta's picks for the best high school teams in the region:
No. 5: Steele Knights, Jay Mustangs, Smithson Valley Rangers, Burbank Bulldogs, Southwest Dragons
Yes, it’s a five-way tie off the top to get things started. I make the rules here, right?
Steele, Jay, Smithson Valley, Burbank and Southwest are all 8-1 and playoff-bound as the November football picture comes into shape.
No. 4: Alamo Heights Mules
Ranked fifth in Week 9
The Mules are 9-0 and haven’t played a close game in weeks, most recently dispatching the Lanier Voks 61-7 on Saturday. They’ll eventually get playoff-tested, but are full-speed ahead at the moment as they search for an undefeated regular season.
No. 3: Johnson Jaguars
Ranked third in Week 9
Johnson is 8-1 through nine games, their only blemish being district showdown against Reagan. They’ll try for regular season win No. 9i this week against Madison.
No. 2: Harlan Hawks
Ranked second in Week 9
The Hawks were on their bye week, and headed into it 9-0. They’ll try for the perfect regular season against Taft on Thursday night.
No. 1: Reagan Rattlers
Ranked first in Week 9
Who else? The Rattlers have been there all season... and they remain there after another double-digit win this week, winning 42-21 over Roosevelt. Reagan will go for the undefeated regular season this week, too, visiting Brandeis.
