KENS 5 Top 5: Reagan Rattlers still own the top spot

After nine weeks of Texas high school football, here's where things stand when it comes to the best regional programs.

SAN ANTONIO — With more than two weeks of Texas high school football in the books, here are my picks for the best teams in the San Antonio region.

No. 5: Smithson Valley Rangers and Alamo Heights Mules

Both teams unranked in Week 8.

I’ve tied things up, with 5A powerhouse programs Smithson Valley and Alamo Heights!

The Rangers had quite the statement win at Boerne Champion, dominating 49-14. The Mules with an another easy double-digit district win as well, 73-6 over Edison. Both teams are steamrolling toward their respective playoff runs.

No. 4: Steele Knights

Ranked fifth in Week 8

Steele just keeps on winning since that early-season blemish on the road at Lake Travis. The Knights were victorious over East Central last Friday night, 52-28. They host rival Judson this Friday.

No. 3: Johnson Jaguars

Ranked second in Week 8

We find the Johnson Jaguars a spot lower after they were 42-7 winners over Marshall over the weekend, though that drop is more about the next team than Johnson themselves. The Jaguars are 7-1 after bouncing back from the loss to Reagan the week before. They play Lee on Friday night.

No. 2: Harlan Hawks

Ranked third in Week 8

The second-highest peak this week is reserved for the Harlan Hawks! The much anticipated Northside ISD showdown between themselves and John Jay went to the Hawks, 42-33, at Farris Stadium on Saturday night. Harlan finally gets their bye week, and they’ve earned it. They are 9-0 and rolling!

No. 1 Reagan Rattlers

Ranked first in Week 8

It still has to be the Reagan Rattlers! They were shutout winners over the Churchill Chargers, 38-0, improving to 8-0 on the year. They get Roosevelt and Brandeis the next two weeks as they continue their pursuit of regular season perfection.
