Why are Jake Paul and Mike Tyson 'suspended' from boxing? A Texas law requires it.

Paul and Tyson must serve 24-day suspensions from professional boxing due to a mandatory Texas law.

ARLINGTON, Texas — Jake Paul and Mike Tyson fought Friday night in the squared circle at AT&T Stadium in front of more than 72,300 fans – which drew the biggest gate in Texas history and the ninth all-time highest combat sports gate in U.S. history

The fight also broke streaming records, per Netflix and Most Valuable Promotions (MVP), drawing in a peak 65 million households on the platform, despite technical difficulties

Now, both Paul and Tyson are suspended from boxing for 24 days. Why, you ask? It's not for misconduct, but rather because of a Texas law put in place to require rest for the fighters.

The Tyson-Paul clash was sanctioned as a professional bout by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TLDR), so the fighters must follow the mandatory requirements set by the organization.

Why are Jake Paul and Mike Tyson suspended?

According to Texas Administrative Code, both fighters will be required to rest for three days per round fought. Paul and Tyson fought eight, two-minute rounds, so they'll both be subjected to a 24-day no-spar ban to ensure they rest and recover from any fight-related injuries.

The suspension is standard practice in combat sports for the safety of the boxers.

The fight wasn't close on the judge's cards, with one giving Paul an 80-72 edge and the other two calling it 79-73.

Tyson came after Paul immediately after the opening bell and landed a couple of quick punches but didn't try much else the rest of the way.

Even fewer rounds and shorter rounds couldn't do much to generate action for a 58-year-old in his first sanctioned pro fight in almost 20 years, facing a boxing neophyte with hopes of fighting for championships somewhere in the future.

Paul was more aggressive after the quick burst from Tyson in the opening seconds, but the punching wasn't very efficient. There were quite a few wild swings and misses.

Tyson mostly sat back and waited for Paul to come to him, with a few exceptions.

The fight was originally scheduled for July 20 but had to be postponed when Tyson was treated for a stomach ulcer after falling ill on a flight.

Numerous celebrities came out to AT&T Stadium for the fight, including Evander Holyfield, Shaquille O'Neal, Sugar Ray Leonard, Jerry Jones, Charlize Theron, Ralph Macchio, William Zabka, Josh Duhamel, Joe Jonas, Joe Manganiello, Lennox Lewis, Rob Gronkowski, Mike Epps, Simu Liu, Daddy Yankee, Anderson Silva, Tom Segura, Jeff Ross, Joey Fatone, and more.
