SAN ANTONIO — Former NBA big man Dwight Howard competed against two premier forwards during his playing days: Kevin Garnett and Tim Duncan.
However, regarding which of the two forwards was a tougher matchup, Howard contends that taking on Garnett was a tougher assignment than the San Antonio Spurs icon.
Reacting to an episode of Gilbert Arenas' show where Arenas and Nick Young opined that Garnett was the better player than Duncan, Howard chimed in by adding his thoughts to the debate.
"KG has always been my favorite player and I will say it was harder to compete against KG than Tim," Howard posted on X.
A look at some head-to-head stats proves Duncan edged Howard in their matchups.
The pair played against one another 32 times in the regular and postseason combined.
Duncan won 19 games to Howard's 13. In the playoffs, the two squared off four times, with Duncan's Spurs beating Howard's teams 4-0.
Regarding NBA titles, Duncan outshines Howard five rings to one ring.
And Duncan might have had a mental edge over Howard. Recall the infamous video of Duncan laughing at Howard as he exited a game versus the Spurs when he was a Laker.
So, this is not the first time Howard has lobbed some verbal shots at Duncan.
On his podcast, "D12 Above The Rim," he called Duncan "baby food" and said he "demolished" the Spurs legend when he faced him.
"They say that guy Tim Duncan is one of the greatest power forwards ever. And I demolished him every time I played against him. He was baby food to me."
