ARLINGTON, Texas — A former Texas Rangers pitcher is facing charges after allegedly driving under the influence, according to Arlington Police.
Former Ranger Matt Bush was arrested Friday and charged with driving while intoxicated, evading arrest and accident involving injury, according to APD.
Police say an APD officer tried to pull Bush over after he was spotted driving erratically in a 2023 Lincoln Aviator along Pioneer Parkway around 8:25 p.m. on Friday. According to APD, instead of pulling over, Bush sped off and the officer lost sight of him.
A few minutes later, around 8:30 p.m., officers responded to a crash involving multiple cars at the intersection of E. Pioneer Pkwy & S. Collins Street and noticed one of the vehicles involved was the same Lincoln Aviator that evaded the officer, police said in a release.
Arlington PD says they believe Bush ran a red light and crashed into three other cars. According to APD, witnesses told officers that 38-year-old Bush tried to run from the scene on foot, but bystanders chased him down and detained him.
Police say Bush and the driver of one of the vehicles were taken to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. All of the other drivers involved were uninjured.
According to police, Bush refused a roadside sobriety test, so officers obtained a warrant for a blood sample, which was sent to a lab for further analysis.
Bush has been convicted of this same thing before. Bush was sentenced to 52 months in prison on Dec. 18, 2012 to after being charged with crashing into a 72-year-old motorcyclist Tony Tufano while drunk and leaving the scene of the accident. Tufano was left unconscious with his brain hemorrhaging, a collapsed lung and eight broken vertebrae, but survived.
