Fan creates 10-foot 'Victor El Alien' Halloween decoration; Spurs Youth Basketball League turns 35 years old

This will get you into a Spurs spooky season spirit.

SAN ANTONIO — It would not be Halloween in San Antonio without neighborhood yards decorated in frightful Silver and Black themes.

And that is precisely what Vincent Hearn did by taking a 10-foot alien Halloween decoration from Costco and slapping a Victor Wembanyama San Antonio Spurs jersey on it, appropriately naming his creation “Victor EL Alien.”

"We turned our 10ft Costco Alien into “Victor EL Alien” Wembanyama! Maybe Wemby will see this?" Hearn shared on social media.

Spurs fans will always look for any reason to show off their team spirit or, in this case, their Spurs spooky season spirit.

SPURS YOUTH BASKETBALL LEAGUE CELEBRATES ITS 35TH ANNIVERSARY

The Spurs Youth Basketball League is turning 35, and the team announced celebrations for its 35th anniversary.

Founded in 1990 by Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich and Kids Sports Network president/founder Frank Martin, SYBL has impacted the lives of over 463,000 athletes and coaches through various programs and initiatives.

“For the last 35 years, SYBL has rooted itself on not only teaching young people the game of basketball but also the critical life skills and character traits that are necessary for our next generation to succeed,” said Kara Allen, Chief, Impact, People and Belonging Officer at Spurs Sports and Entertainment (SS&E) said in a release. “By focusing on teamwork, self-worth, resiliency, respect and self-discipline, the program has built a legacy of thousands of young people and coaches who have been positively impacted by their experience in the league and one we hope to continue for the next 35 years.”

Celebrations will honor SYBL throughout the 2024-25 Spurs season, and fundraising initiatives will be announced throughout the year.

A limited-edition anniversary T-shirt in a 1990s style will be available. SYBL alumni will be honored as special guests at select Spurs games and community clinics. There will also be a Jam Session Tip-Off event on Sunday, Sept. 29, at the George Gervin Academy (6944 S. Sunbelt 78218) from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Athletes and families can register here.
