SAN ANTONIO — In a touching social media post, former Austin Spurs guard Jeff Ledbetter announced his retirement from basketball.
Never would have thought a skinny little kid from Brea who fell in love with sports from a young age would get the chance to play basketball for a job as long as he did! So many emotions going through my body now that it’s time to let it go. It was a beautiful but very hard journey at times! Some of my highest highs in life and some of my lowest lows happened because of this game. And im thankful for both! It made me tougher and made me who I am today!
THANK YOU to my family, friends, wife, step-son, coaches, GMs, trainers, support staff, fans, and everyone else I encountered along this journey! Im grateful for all our time together and the support you showed me when I needed it most! It was an absolute blessing going to war with my teammates every night! I hope y’all enjoyed playing along side me as much as I did with yall!
Ledbetter went undrafted in the 2011 NBA Draft. In 2019, he inked a contract with the San Antonio Spurs.
He played with the Spurs Summer League and the Austin team from 2017-20.
SPEEDY CLAXTON ON THE TONY PARKER-JASON KIDD TRADE RUMORS
Former Spurs guard Speedy Claxton (who helped the Spurs win the 2003 NBA title) opened up about his time in San Antonio with the "Sweep The League" YouTube show.
Speedy was asked about the 2003 trade rumors involving Tony Parker and Jason Kidd. Ultimately, the Spurs did not trade Parker, but it did impact him.
"Well, he was young" Claxton said. "He was young. You know, it was a lot of chatter with Jason Kidd potentially coming to San Antonio that next year. So I'm sure Tony wanted to put his best foot forward and show that he was, you know, the point guard of the future for the Spurs."
From how he got the nickname "Speedy" to his current coaching status with Hofstra, this is a must-watch interview for all Spurs fans.
