Barack Obama says he's a fan of the Spurs' 2014 'Beautiful Game' team; Has to watch Wembanyama play

The Spurs and Wemby received presidential approval.

SAN ANTONIO — The 2014 San Antonio Spurs title team was dubbed "The Beautiful Game" for its unselfishness, incredible teamwork, razor focus, and determination to redeem its shortcomings in the 2013 NBA Finals during its incredible march to the NBA Finals.

That team finished the regular season with a 62-20 record and went 16-7 in the playoffs en route to the NBA championship.

That Spurs team inspired other teams to mimic what the 2014 Spurs did, and that style of play also gained a Presidential fan: Barack Obama.

The former U.S. president recently spoke with Indiana Pacers' Tyrese Haliburton on "The Young Man and The Three" and admitted the 2014 Spurs and the Warriors dynasty teams are two teams he enjoyed watching over the last decade.

"The teams I enjoyed watching most over the last decade, it's the Warriors, and before that, it was the Spurs," Obama said. "I just like that style of basketball. The beautiful game, the ball is popping, and nobody is just backing up and dribbling the whole time."

Obama did not stop there when it came to the Spurs.

He admits that he cannot stop watching Victor Wembanyama whenever he is on the court.

"It's hard to take your eyes off of Wembanyama when he's on the court," he said. "He makes the rest of you all look tiny and to see his growth curve, it's hard not to watch them (Spurs)."

And to add more praise, Obama said that Wemby is a revolutionary player, just as Kevin Durant, Larry Bird, and Magic Johnson were during their time in the league.

That is some high Presidential praise for the Spurs, both for their past performance and for what Wemby is doing now.
