SAN ANTONIO — The Dallas Mavericks will have the first crack at playing against San Antonio Spurs rookie sensation Victor Wembanyama on Wednesday night at the Frost Bank Center.

But with all eyes on the rookie sensation making his NBA debut today, the popular "NBA Rooks" series on the NBA App is taking you behind-the-scenes with Wembanyama from his NBA beginnings.

From his arrival to San Antonio, Wembanyama's thoughts during the preseason, commentary from Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich, and footage of the rookie phenom exploring the city and engaging with the local community, this episode is a must-watch for all Spurs fans getting ready for his first regular season game.

"I'm ready to learn and to compete," Wembanyama said. "I love to share the ball with my teammates."

Said Wembanyama, "I think six, seven years ago I started realizing the expectations to be a professional NBA player."

And not forgotten in the episode are the fans who are highlighted for their passion for the Spurs and excitement for Wembanyama.

"He's not impressed with himself. He's not intimidated by anything," Popovich said in the episode. " He knows he needs to do work. That's called character. When a player has character, he's going to grow. And if he has talent, he's going to be great."

The NBA App is a must-have for all Spurs fans.

“NBA Rooks” builds on a growing list of original series and programming available to fans on the NBA App.  The league last week announced several new enhancements and content on the platform, including “Bring it Home” chronicling the Denver Nuggets’ 2022-23 championship season and season two of “Pass the Rock” following up-and-coming stars across the NBA.

Additional episodes of “NBA Rooks” spotlighting other members of the 2023-24 rookie class will be announced at a later date.
