Cavaliers 117, Spurs 101: What they said after the game

The Spurs could not close out the long homestand with a win against the Cavs.

SAN ANTONIO — The San Antonio Spurs could not pick a home win to close out their seven-game homestand, losing to the Cleveland Cavaliers, 117-101. The Spurs are on a four-game losing skid.

Victor Wembanyama recorded 19 points and 14 rebounds. Jeremy Sochan had two points and nine rebounds. Cedi Osman added seven points off the bench. Devin Vassell recorded 22 points in the loss. Tre Jones added seven points and eight assists.

The Spurs are 10-40 on the season and will next visit the Miami Heat on Wednesday night for game one of the Rodeo Road Trip.

Here's a sample of what the teams said after the game.

SPURS

Coach Gregg Popovich:

"Their (Cavs) length and physicality poses a big problem and so does their talent. We didn't have as much juice as last time. They're trying hard but couldn't make a shot in the first half. Came back played better in the second half, got a little rest, and move on."

Johnson:

"We fought through. We continue to grow as a team, continue to stay together, and have each other's back. This is definitely character-building for us. It's never gonna be easy on nights like this when you don't have the energy and you got to find a way to get it done. You learn and grow and now we're going to continue to find a way to get it done."

Wembanyama:

"Road games are different experiments because this is also some time we get to spend on team activities. The last time we were in Detroit we went bowling. It's nice. It's cool. I guess it's also a real test for the team."
