Clippers 109, Spurs 102: What they said after the game

“We never want to lose, but that’s the best way to lose," Jeremy Sochan following the team's loss to the Clippers.

SAN ANTONIO — The San Antonio Spurs losing skid extends to 10 in a row after losing to the Los Angeles Clippers 109-102 at home.

Victor Wembanyama had 22 points, three assists, and 15 rebounds while Cedi Osman recorded five points. Zach Collins had 16 points and nine rebounds in the loss. Jeremy Sochan had 19 points. Keldon Johnson added 15 points. Devin Vassell recorded 18 points after being out due to injury.

The Spurs are 3-12 on the season, and will next visit the Golden State Warriors Friday night.

Here's a sample of what the teams said after the game.

SPURS

Gregg Popovich

“I was proud of them. We had a bad first quarter shooting-wise, obviously, but they only scored 26 in that quarter, so that really wasn’t a bad quarter, except for our shooting. But in the next three quarters, we outscored them 92-87. That’s not a win, but their competitiveness was off the charts, and the execution keeps getting better for a team that’s never played together. I was proud of them, and I thought they did a good job.”

Sochan

“We never want to lose, but that’s the best way to lose. Staying hungry, playing against four Hall of Famers, a team that’s fighting for a championship. I think that’s the way to lead the game."

Wembanyama

"Pop told us about our competitiveness coming back to the locker room and we have leaders on the team. Jeremy’s one of them and it’s good he’s learning a new role, but at the same time, we’re here to help him and he’s also here reassuring us. He’s proving every day and I’m glad to have such a solid mental basis."

CLIPPERS

Ty Lue

"Tonight, I just thought we got comfortable once we built those leads, and then they made it a game because they're going to keep playing, and they're going to play hard and compete. That's just something to learn from. We just can't let our guards down and need to continue to play through the game. And having 18 assists in the second half, I thought was really good. We shared the basketball, but [the Spurs] did some different things, they played some zone, tried to trick the game up a little bit and it gave us some problems."

Kawhi Leonard

“We want to win every game and it shows that we’re getting better. But like you said, we still got a lot to learn and to get better at. You guys could see at the end of that game, we had some careless turnovers, and they got some easy looks at the basket and wide-open layups. So, we got to buy in and figure that out.”
