DeRozan sees the benefits of Victor Wembanyama getting coached by Popovich; Spurs games might be on Amazon

"I think you are going to be able to see how important Pop is and will be to Wemby," said former Spur DeMar DeRozan.

SAN ANTONIO β€” Former San Antonio Spurs swingman DeMar DeRozan was a guest on "Podcast P" with Paul George and praised the pairing of Victor Wembanyama and coach Gregg Popovich.

"Wemby is already a hell of a kid. So the discipline, the hunger the drive, the motivation he already there. Being underneath the tutelage of a Pop, I think you will be able to tell this season how special," he said. "I think you are going to be able to see how important Pop is and will be to Wemby."

Pop took a slow and deliberate approach with Wemby last season. He allowed him to play freely, observing him before taking a more directed coaching. That allowed Wemby to see his stats skyrocket and lead him to be named the 2023-24 NBA Rookie of the Year.

The pairing will be critical for the team's current rebuild and future after the Popovich coaching era.

SPURS GAMES ON AMAZON PRIME?

According to the NY Post's Josh Kosman, Amazon, and Diamond Sports Group are nearing a major deal to broadcast NBA, MLB, and NHL games on Amazon Prime streaming.

"With the new streaming service β€” which could launch next month with the start of the NHL and NBA seasons β€” sources said fans will pay about $20 a month for access to their home team’s local games through Prime," the NY Post reported.

Spurs games locally have been aired via Bally Sports, Bally Sports+, KENS 5 TV, or other outlets.

It will be interesting to see where this goes since a major gripe with Silver and Black fans has been the ease of access to watch games and the pricey subscriptions that can be required to watch Spurs action.
