SAN ANTONIO — Las Vegas oddsmakers are busy with 2024 NBA offseason prop futures, and with the regular season complete, many are projecting where Donovan Mitchell may land next season if he doesn't stay in Cleveland.
Several major online sportsbooks are releasing which teams have the best odds for Mitchell's services next season.
BetOnline Sportsbook says the San Antonio Spurs are among the top 10 teams. It has the Spurs with the 5th-best odds of landing Mitchell next season at +1000 if he doesn't remain on the Cavaliers roster.
The Lakers (+300), Nets (+400), and Heat (+500) are the favorites to land Mitchell's services next season.
Mitchell could fill the Spurs' need for a veteran presence on the roster and someone who can create space for Victor Wembanyama to operate and create his own shot. The 27-year-old is an All-Star and provides the team with the All-Star pairing Wemby needs.
He also put up great numbers last season. He averaged 26.6 points, 6.1 assists, and 5.1 rebounds in the regular season.
However, there are reports that he will likely join the Lakers if he does not sign an extension with the Cavs.
“If Mitchell doesn’t sign an extension with Cleveland this summer, the Cavs will have to explore trade options — and one of the teams standing at the front of the line will be the Lakers," reports The Athletic.
Ultimately, it will come down to the Cavs' asking price for Mitchell. What price will San Antonio be willing to pay for him?
Also, does he want to join a rebuilding franchise and play second to Wemby? These are open questions to discuss.
