SAN ANTONIO — Wednesday night at the Frost Bank Center the action between the San Antonio Spurs and the Clippers extended to beyond the court.
Making his return to San Antonio, Kawhi Leonard was met with boos from fans constantly each and every time he touched the ball.
And coach Gregg Popovich was not having it.
In the second quarter, as Leonard went to the free throw line, the San Antonio faithful booed loudly. They had been doing that all game just as they have been doing since he left in 2018.
But in between the free throws, Kawhi's former coach decided he'd had enough. He grabbed the public address microphone and addressed the fans, imploring them to stop the booing.
The plea from Popovich did not go over well with fans in attendance as they booed louder and never stopped throughout the remainder of the game.
Following the game, the head coach said he did what he did to not "poke the bear".
“I think anybody that knows anything about sports knows you don’t poke the bear," he said.
Spurs fans certainly had a strong reaction to what Pop did.

ESPN's Stephen A. Smith and Brian Windhorst also chimed in citing Popovich's interactions with the media and asking if he conducts himself with "class" with media like he was asking fans to act with class during the game.
