Fox Sports Radio's Rob Parker opines that Gregg Popovich should turn in his resignation

The sports radio host believes Pop should quit coaching due to the Spurs' poor season with Wembanyama.

SAN ANTONIO — At a current record of 13-48, the San Antonio Spurs have not had the winning season they may have envisioned.

The team is flirting with finishing with the worst record in franchise history despite adding basketball superstar Victor Wembanyama.

Add in an 18-game losing streak this season and multiple double-figure losses, and it has been a trying season for the Silver and Black.

And it is for these reasons that Fox Sports Radio host Rob Parker believes head coach Gregg Popovich should quit after the season.

Parker discussed Monty Williams and the Pistons' terrible season during a recent show. During his rant, he opined that Williams should walk away from the job at the end of the season and then shifted to Popovich, believing he should do the same.

"Gregg Popovich should do exactly the same thing. No mas! Retire," Parker said. "He just signed a contract extension. Do a self-void out of the contract and say to the Spurs and their fan base, 'No mas, I'm sorry. My bad. I'm done'."

The Spurs are just in the early stages of their rebuild, and it will take time for the team to rise to the top of the NBA again.

Adding Wembanyama is a huge step forward to come out of the rebuild, and the Spurs are well-positioned to make big moves to help speed the rebuild.

However, that isn't enough for Parker, who continued questioning the Spurs' poor season with Wembanyama.

"How do you get a generational talent in Wemby, and you're worse than you were before he came in? I'm talking about 18 games (lost) in a row. These guys are stealing money," he said.

Popovich is well aware the road back to success will take time. He preaches the team will not skip steps; they will develop players and that it is a basketball education with the youngest roster under his leadership during his tenure in San Antonio.

However, with the team having plenty of first and second-round draft picks, well under the NBA salary cap, and the team likely to land another top-10 pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, Popovich could be guiding a winning team next season.

Also, Popovich and the Spurs have turned things around somewhat late in the season with wins over top teams like Indiana and Oklahoma City.
