Grizzlies' Morant says his dunk on Victor Wembanyama was a 'late Christmas gift'

Morant got a dunk on Wemby but was it really a jaw-dropping 'poster dunk'?

SAN ANTONIO — During Tuesday night's San Antonio Spurs game versus the Memphis Grizzlies, Ja Morant took the ball to the rim in the fourth period with just one defender near him: 7-5 rookie Victor Wembanyama.

As Morant shook Wemby on the court and leaped into the air, the Grizzlies All-Star dunked on the Spurs center.

This got Morant hyped, the Memphis bench cheering, and the home crowd up and off their seats.

Following the game Morant down-played the dunk saying it was just in the normal course of an NBA game.

“No. I didn't wake up like ‘Yeah, I'm gonna go [dunk on him].’ There was no incentive. I don’t try to dunk on people like I used to. I just get a bucket and find a way," he said.

Morant continued: “The moment was just like any other moment for me when someone guards me. Our goal is to score.”

However, he did change his tune a bit by saying he gave what the fans wanted to see in the game.

"That's what everybody wanted, so that's my late Christmas gift," Morant said.

But was it a vicious, jaw-dropping poster dunk like Morant has done to others? Sure, Wemby was in the near vicinity of Morant and technically he dunked on him.

But it did leave some Spurs fans thinking the dunk was ultimately nothing outstanding and lacked the exclamation point seen in past Morant poster dunks on players.

Here's a sample of Spurs fans reacting to  the Morant dunk:

Not to be outdone, Wembanyama got a highlight-worthy block on Morant in the first half.
