Hawks 137, Spurs 135: What they said after the game

The Spurs' losing skid extends to 13 in a row after a tough loss versus the Hawks.

SAN ANTONIO — The San Antonio Spurs' losing skid extends to 13 in a row after losing to the Atlanta Hawks 137-135 at home.

Victor Wembanyama had 21 points, two assists, and 12 rebounds to lead the team while Julian Champagnie recorded 15 points. Zach Collins had 11 points and two rebounds in the loss. Jeremy Sochan had 33 points and six assists. Keldon Johnson added 22 points. Devin Vassell recorded 25 points.

The Spurs are 3-15 on the season, and will next visit the New Orleans Pelicans Friday night.

Here's a sample of what the teams said after the game.

SPURS

Gregg Popovich:

“There are things all night long that we can learn from. Their competitiveness was great. Their execution is better all the time, but you get to fourth quarters [and] the great players take over. That's been difficult for us. Tre [Jones] had his way there in the third quarter and down the stretch, making plays for us. It's going to be more difficult than some other teams for a variety of reasons. But their character is great, and I said their competitiveness is off the charts.

Champagnie

"We got to come in every night and just say we’re going to move the ball and we're going to play together and we’re going to play as a team. I think for the most part, we do that. Sometimes guys get missed, that’s a part of the game. For the most part, we do it, but tonight I think it was just another night of us saying we want to win a game, and we always say we want to win games.”

Sochan

“It was an all-around performance. There are things I could have done better, but I think overall was a pretty good game.”

Wembanyama

“Of course, taking care of the ball in the second half. Attacking their weak spots more. Of course, we gave them 137 points. It’s hard to win when the opposing team scores that much, so we need to step it up on defense.”

HAWKS

Quin Snyder

"Trae Young taking the charge at the end of the game is a big-time play. We talked about defense with our team. We're not always the best defensive team. We're going to improve if we keep working. There are some limitations, no question about that right now with [Jalen Johnson] out. But if there's a commitment like that; and just a hell of a play by Trae. Overshadowed, it was a stellar offensive night."

Dejounte Murray

"When you're going against tough whistles, we just got to stick together and fight through it and keep attacking the basket and getting calls. We got to attack the basket and put the pressure on the refs to make the same calls, but most importantly just stick together."
