"We got off to a slow start and we were digging ourselves out of the hole the entire time," Spurs' Tre Jones.

The Spurs are 3-5 on the season, and will next host the Minnesota Timberwolves Friday night.

Here's a sample of what the teams said after the game via the Knicks.

SPURS

Gregg Popovich

“Play two bigs. Sometimes you go small, sometimes you play two bigs. Depends on what is going on on the court, and what the matchups are. What works best for the people you have on the court, a little bit of everything right now in the beginning of the season.”

Wembanyama

"I think all of us on the court have good intentions and we learn a lot from the coaching staff defensively, so we're just trying to apply what they say. I think what's good is we're bringing energy all the time, so this is a good start. We have great potential defensively. I know in the past games, especially in Phoenix, we've seen great defensive sequences. We're just all getting it together."

Jones

"The rough start definitely doesn’t help and tonight it was both halves. We got off to a slow start and we were digging ourselves out of the hole the entire time."

Johnson

“We stay level-headed, and we don’t get too high or too low. It’s a long season and it's hard to be hyped after two games, but that’s what everyone else is for. We stay together, we stay locked in, we continue to strive and watch films and better ourselves each and every day."

KNICKS

Tom Thibodeau

"I thought the way we started the game was huge, playing from the lead. I thought we were strong on both sides of the ball. I thought the unselfishness on the offense was huge, good rhythm to make the threes. I thought we were flying around early."

Jalen Brunson

"We [the Knicks] started the game off really well, got to a big lead, and throughout most of the game we kind of held that lead. In the fourth quarter, they [the Spurs] made a little jump at us. But that team doesn’t stop playing – there’s always something going on with them and they kept us [the Knicks] on our heels, but we were able to finish the game strongly."
