SAN ANTONIO — The San Antonio Spurs and Los Angeles Lakers will play their first 2024 NBA Cup game in San Antonio, but for LeBron James, the game is taking a backseat because of Gregg Popovich's health.
Ahead of the game, James shared that he prioritizes Pop's well-being over the action on the court.
"There's much bigger news out of San Antonio right now and that is my dear friend coach Pop and I will be thinking heavily about him as I travel there tomorrow," James said. "Wishing him the best of health and hopefully I'll see him soon."
James and Pop have had a long friendship, and the Lakers star is never shy about sharing how much he appreciates the Spurs head coach.
Spurs General Manager Brian Wright discussed the situation, letting everyone know that Pop is in rehab after suffering a mild stroke that occurred at the Frost Bank Center. He stated Pop is doing well and on the road to recovery. However, no timetable has been set for his return.
