SAN ANTONIO — Firstmark Credit Union will be conducting its fourth annual "Turkeys for Teachers" this weekend and a familiar face will be doing his part for the event once again.
Former San Antonio Spurs wingman Lonnie Walker IV's "The Lonnie Walker IV Foundation" will be partnering with Spurs Sports & Entertainment, Firstmark, and Trusted Capital Group to help local teachers this holiday season.
The event will be aimed at supporting educators with free turkeys, goodie bags, and more than 1,000 deserving educators in the community as a token of appreciation for their work.
In addition, Firstmark will have the San Antonio Spurs mascot the Coyote, live performances from local school bands, and more to honor San Antonio teachers.
The moment Walker was drafted by the Spurs in 2018, he made an immediate impact on the community.
From urging students at LaVernia High School to never give up on their education, sponsoring free haircuts for families in partnership with Fantastic Sams to personally assisting in the clean up of downtown San Antonio during the Black Lives Matters marches Walker has always been there for San Antonio.
Even though he is no longer with the team and playing for the Nets, does not mean he's forgotten his San Antonio family.
Firstmark believes that educators have always been the backbone of the community, and the turkey drive aims to honor their hard work and inspiration.
This incredible event is just one way for Firstmark to show educators appreciation during the Thanksgiving season.
Walker still has lasting relationships in San Antonio. His mom still resides in the city, his foundation still supports the community, and he continues to hold the city close to his heart.
