Mavericks 110, Spurs 93: What they said after the game

"I thought we did a really good job. It's that third-quarter scoring," - said coach Mitch Johnson.

SAN ANTONIO — The San Antonio Spurs picked up the road loss versus the Mavericks, losing 110-93.

Zach Collins finished with 20 points and six rebounds. Julian Champagnie had 13 points and two rebounds, Harrison Barnes finished with four, Keldon Johnson had eight, and Chris Paul had 11 points and three assists.

Sandro Mamukelashvili added 14 points, and Stephon Castle had 12 points and three assists.

San Antonio was without Jeremy Sochan and Victor Wembanyama due to injury. Devin Vassell was out due to injury management. Head coach Gregg Popovich was also out due to illness. Assistant coach Mitch Johnson assumed head coaching duties for the game.

The Spurs are 6-8 to start the season and will next host the Thunder on Tuesday night.

Here's a sample of what the teams said after the game.

SPURS

Mitch Johnson:

"I thought we did a really good job. It's that third-quarter scoring. We held them to two quarters, obviously, under 25 points, and that's been a little bit of our deal, right? We've had some inconsistent good moments. The problem is the inconsistency of it. So think just continuing to try to put together consistent 48 minutes and get healthy and kind of try to build on this stuff, hopefully we can catch a rhythm here."

Collins:

"We don't look at it as those guys are out. The game is easier when we're fully healthy. Rotations are cleaner, and that's just what we used to be playing with. So you could say we tonight was different because it was the first game of the season. We didn't have Victor (Wembanyama), and Dev (Vassell) has been helping us so much recently. But we're professionals, man, and that's no excuse."
