NBA Draft hopeful Devin Carter impresses at Spurs workout

Carter is rising on many mock NBA Draft boards.

SAN ANTONIO — With the 2024 NBA Draft just a few days away, the San Antonio Spurs are diligently looking at the basketball talent they can add to the roster.

The Spurs own picks Nos. 4 and 8 in the first round, and if they want to add a guard, then draft hopeful Devin Carter made an impression.

According to a report via The Athletic guard Devin Carter impressed at his pre-draft workout with the Spurs.

"It’s no surprise that Carter impressed in a private workout for the Spurs this past week, according to league sources," reported The Athletic.

San Antonio does need help at the point guard spot, and Carter could help fill that need.

So, who is Carter?

He is a 6-2 guard, 195 lbs, 22 years old, who played with Providence last season.

Scouting reports note his defensive skills, with comparisons to ex-Spur Derrick White.

He was named Big East Player of the Year. He led the conference in points per game (19.7) and was 12th in assists per game (3.6).

He connected on 38% from the three-point line his junior season and is described on the floor as "tough," "do-it-all," "aggressive," and "hustler."

He finished last season averaging 19.7 points, 3.6 assists, and 1.8 steals; he grabbed 8.7 rebounds per game with the Friars.

He is a bit undersized at the guard spot in the NBA, and his assist-to-turnover rate (3.6 assists/2.7 turnovers per game) with the Friars is worth noting.
