SAN ANTONIO — The San Antonio Spurs own picks No. 4 and 8 at the upcoming NBA Draft 2024, and many project the team might be looking to add help at the point guard spot.
And one of the projected top-10 picks, Nikola Topic, could be on their draft board.
However, the Serbian point guard's draft stock may fall after he recently suffered a knee injury.
Topic suffered a non-contact injury to his left knee in Game 1 of the AdmiralBet ABA League Finals versus Partizan Mozzart Bet.
A video surfaced of the point guard needing to be helped off the court and into the locker room as he could not put any weight on the injured knee.
This is the same left knee that kept him out of action for nearly four months back in January.
Many mock drafts have Topic landing in the top 10 and having San Antonio select him, but after another setback, it is unclear if teams like the Spurs will use their pick to select the 18-year-old point guard.
The good news is that he is young, and perhaps the injury isn't as bad as it looks, but will his history of injuries force teams to pause when considering him as a potential player on the roster?
In the EuroLeague with Mega Basket, he averaged 18.4 points, 7.1 assists, a steal, and 25.9% from the three-point line in 12 games played in the 2023-24 season. He is a dynamic, 6'6" point guard with incredible passing ability and can put pressure on defense in the paint. His defense is sub-par, and his shooting ability can use work.
