SAN ANTONIO — Las Vegas oddsmakers are busy with 2023-24 NBA prop futures and are projecting which NBA players could contend for the NBA Defensive Player of the Year.

According to Oddsmaker Caesars Sportsbook, San Antonio Spurs' Victor Wembnyama is among the top 10 players to land the award.

Caesars Sportsbook currently places Wemby with the eighth-best odds of being named the league's best defensive player at +1200 odds.

Ranked ahead of him are Anthony Davis, Rudy Gobert, and Bam Adebayo to name a few.

Overall, Memphis' Jaren Jackson Jr. has the best odds of receiving the award at +500.

Through four preseason games, Wembanyma is sure to move up the candidate list for the Defensive Player of the Year when the regular season begins.

He averaged 2.8 blocks per game (12.2% block percentage) to lead the team in the preseason. It was good for third-best in the preseason overall. He also grabbed 4.7 rebounds per game and 1.0 steals.

He showed he can also cause havoc on the defensive end for the opposition. He forced players to pass out of the paint or pass up shots at the basket with Wembanyama's length being an issue.

Keep in mind he has yet to play a regular season game and once he gets the NBA experience, his NBA defensive IQ will balloon.

Specifically, on how to defend NBA players, help on defense, increase his rebounding averages, and more.
