Patty Mills waived from Atlanta Hawks after receiving small amount of playing time

Mills played for the Spurs from 2012 to 2021.

SAN ANTONIO — The Atlanta Hawks recently announced they have waived 15-year veteran guard Patty Mills.

Mills got little playing time in Atlanta after being acquired from Oklahoma City before the start of the current season.

The former San Antonio Spurs guard (2012-21) averaged 2.7 points and 1.1 rebounds in 19 games with Atlanta.

After his time with the Spurs was over, he'd go on to play for the Nets and holds career averages of 8.9 points, 1.7 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game.

Mills could land with a playoff-bound team, but should the Spurs consider bringing him back to help guide the young roster if he doesn't?

His veteran presence on the court and in the locker room could be seen as valuable, and with the team lacking a seasoned point guard, perhaps he could fit. Mills won a title with the Spurs in 2014, remains a popular player with fans, made a tremendous impact on the local community, and introduced the "Coffee Gang," which became a sensation in San Antonio.
