SAN ANTONIO — A Spurs assistant coach who has been with the team for six years – and who suited up for San Antonio for a couple of seasons before that – may be heading to Cleveland next season, according to reports from an NBA insider.
Adrian Wojnarowski, who covers the league for ESPN, tweeted Friday evening that Ime Udoka will interview for the head coaching gig in Cleveland this weekend.
Udoka played for five NBA teams over parts of a 12-year career. That includes Spurs stints from 2007 to 2009 as well as the 2010-2011 season. He's been an assistant coach under Gregg Popovich since 2012.
Two years after winning the NBA Championship with LeBron James in 2016, the Cavaliers went just 19-63, two games away from being the basement dwellers of the Eastern Conference.
