SAN ANTONIO — The accolades continue for San Antonio Spurs' Victor Wembanyama following Monday's announcement that he won the 2023-24 NBA Rookie of the Year Award.
The San Antonio Missions, the city's Double-A feeder team for the Padres, has announced they will celebrate the phenom's milestone with "Wemby Night” on May 29, when they face Frisco at Wolff Stadium.
According to the Missions, fans in attendance will get a free outfield ticket and fries if their name is Victor or Victoria. And, in sticking with the French theme, fans are encouraged to bring their French bulldog or poodle to the game.
There will be chances to win memorabilia raffled throughout the game to entice fans to the ballpark and celebrate Wemby's award.
San Antonio is undoubtedly proud of Wemby's accomplishment.
He joins team greats Tim Duncan and David Robinson as award winners and thanked San Antonio, the fans and everyone involved for helping him throughout this basketball journey.
"I would’ve never been able to do this alone. This one is for my teammates, for the entire staff from trainers to coaches, from the chef at the cafeteria to the ushers at the arena every night, for the Spurs organization, for the best fans in the world having our back winning or losing. And last but not least for the city of San Antonio, I found a home here. Thank you all," he posted on social media.
Spurs fans interested in attending the special night can call the Missions front office at 210-675-7275.
